From Sunday 15th to

This week I will express my opinion about a video that is hosted in the AlJazeera`s webpage and was made for a TV show called "Empire". This is the link: http://www.aljazeera.com/programmes/empire/2011/12/2011122285418789367.html. The video discusses the decadence of the worldwide american power that we are undergoing nowadays and the economic, political and social dimension of this topic.

Before to say something, I should clarify that there are two ways for a country to express its power abroad: the first refers to a more cultural way of influence: the "soft power" (In other video that is shown in this link (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8udhM8QKxg), the definition of soft power is wider explained). If we look at the United States, we have a country that has broader its borders through the medi; all of us have seen an american made movie or have listened an american single. The United States has been extraordinary succesful to expand its way of thinking all over the world and the american popular culture has taken more and more spaces in the live of other cultures. But the soft power is not also cultural, it can also be both political and economical. The american economical power can impulse changes in several countries even without having to shot a bullet. It only could be understood if we would consider the size of the american economy in comparison with the rest of the world. In this context the soft power of USA has been used to attrack countries to do what the USA wanted. For instance, the international coalition conjured by the time of the second gulf war against Hussein was an example of a way the american soft power is applied. Countries as El Salvador or Morroco that had no obvious interest in Irak`s issues were motivated to join to that coalition just to deserve attention from the States.
